Precise Product Placement (PPP)

Product group: Precision agriculture

Introduced through a limited commercial release in 2026, Precise Product Placement (PPP) builds on BSSi’s Seed Sensing Technology to synchronise in-furrow product application with individual potato seed placement. Products are applied directly on or beside each seed piece, with application switching off between pieces. The spray-on setting is adjustable from 25% to 75%. Operators can monitor performance and adjust settings from the tractor cab using BSSi’s in-house-developed camera system, which shows seed position relative to the nozzle and on-screen placement boundaries. PPP helps growers use inputs more efficiently and reduce application costs. Atlantic AgriTech trials in 2024 and 2025 found that targeted placement reduced liquid starter fertiliser use by 50% without a statistically significant difference in yield. In 2026, BSSi has multiple trials across North America evaluating different products using the PPP system.

Introduced through a limited commercial release in 2026, PPP builds on BSSi’s Seed Sensing Technology to synchronise in-furrow product application with each potato seed piece. Products are applied directly on or beside the seed, switching off between pieces. Spray-on time is adjustable from 25% to 75%. BSSi’s in-house-developed camera photographs seed position relative to the nozzle. On-screen boundaries show the intended placement zone, with the seed ideally centred in the frame. Operators can monitor performance, verify alignment and fine-tune application timing from the tractor cab.

Added value for the user (in commercial terms, user-friendliness ...)
PPP gives growers greater control over where crop inputs are applied, reducing unnecessary application and associated costs. At a 25% spray-on setting, application is on for 25% of the cycle and off for 75%. The camera system helps operators check placement and fine-tune timing from the cab. Atlantic AgriTech trials in 2024 and 2025 found that targeted placement reduced liquid starter fertiliser use by 50% without a statistically significant difference in yield.

Added value for the further sustainability and professionalization of the potato sector.
PPP connects actual seed detection with application control, supporting more efficient use of in-furrow inputs. By targeting the seed itself or the area directly beside it, PPP reduces unnecessary application between seed pieces, helping growers reduce input waste and costs. In-cab camera monitoring allows operators to verify placement and fine-tune timing, supporting accurate, consistent application and more precise management of crop inputs.
