Avalon is a mechanical cutting system that recovers rejected fry strips. Often only the tip of a strip is discoloured or damaged, while the rest is usable. A rotating drum positions the strips upright, an adjustable knife trims the defective ends, and the good product returns to the production line. As a standalone unit, Avalon recovers around 65% of rejected fry strips. [Combined with Xcalibur 720 RS, it enables reverse sorting: Xcalibur first re-evaluates the reject stream, then Avalon trims the remaining defects. Together they recover up to 89%.] Less waste, more yield per tonne of potatoes.
