ORYX

Product group: Mechanization

The ORYX by POUCHAIN is a self-propelled potato harvester designed to combine harvesting performance, cleaning quality and operator comfort. Manufactured in Villers-au-Flos, in the Pas-de-Calais, it benefits from the expertise of a French manufacturer with close ties to growers.

With a screening area of 45 m², the ORYX ensures a continuous flow of potatoes from the point of harvesting to the hopper. Its screening, haulm removal and separation systems remove soil and plant residues whilst preserving the tubers.

The numerous settings accessible from the cab allow the driver to adapt the machine’s operation to the conditions of the field. Cameras and control screens make it easy to monitor the harvest. The ORYX thus combines precise settings, ease of operation and efficiency in the field.

Briefly describe what is NEW. This explanation will be submitted to the expert group and will be decisive in the evaluation and selection of the most newsworthy entries. (max. textarea: 600 characters)
The ORYX’s innovative design features a negative steel defoliation roller, designed to grip and remove the foliage more effectively. The driver adjusts the height, speed and direction of rotation according to harvesting conditions. Up to two rollers can be fitted between conveyors 2 and 3 and/or 3 and 4. This combination improves leaf removal, enhances wear resistance and facilitates adjustments without the need for manual intervention on the unit.

Added value for the user (in commercial terms, user-friendliness ...)
The system ensures that the crop is harvested with less foliage attached, whilst protecting the tubers, thereby contributing to their marketable quality. Electric adjustments from the cab allow for rapid adaptation to harvesting conditions and improve the driver’s comfort and safety. The durability of the steel roller minimises the need for replacement, whilst a more consistent flow of produce helps to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.

Added value for the further sustainability and professionalization of the potato sector.
The steel roller’s abrasion resistance extends its service life and reduces the consumption of wear parts as well as the waste associated with their replacement. Preserving the tubers helps to minimise quality losses during harvesting. The electric control system allows for precise adjustments tailored to the conditions of each plot, enhancing technical control over the haulm removal process. This innovation thus supports the sector’s professionalisation by combining harvest quality, operational efficiency and equipment durability.
