INTERPOM INNOVATION TOUR CATEGORY:
Cultivation & Mechanization: from soil preparation to planting to harvesting
ARGUMENTATION ABOUT THE INNOVATIVE CHARACTER
Ipomea batatas (Sweet Potato) is traditionally propagated in the form of 'slips and/or rooted intermediate cuttings'.
Decock Plants only uses top cuttings that ensure a higher yield of 15%.
The young top cuttings are grown in Ethiopia under MPS standards and then rooted according to Belgian cultivation standards.
By using this methodology the efficiency is higher but also the uniformity and the yield.
The result is that more useful product is available.
With this technique we reduce the amount of tubers that are too small, too large and too deformed.
ADDED VALUE FOR THE USER (IN COMMERCIAL TERMS, USER-FRIENDLINESS ...)
This technique allows for better automatic processing both during planting and harvesting. The higher yield significantly reduces the cost price.
ADDED VALUE FOR THE FURTHER SUSTAINABILITY AND PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THE POTATO SECTOR
Cuttings produced in Ethiopia and transported to Europe have a much smaller CO2 footprint than cuttings produced in Europe.
IS THE INNOVATION A RESULT OF YOUR OWN (INTERNAL) DEVELOPMENT?
